INDUCTION for New Teachers                                                                              January 13, 2023

                                                 

Our Workshop

begins with IB authorization, Cognia (AdvancED ) Re-accreditation and how is a school authorized and reviewed.

The workshop began with an Inclusion Activity by sharing their prior knowledge about PYP recalling UOI, PLC discussions, and the classroom settings.

  • We had the new Glimpse about International Baccalaureate (IB) Programmes especially PYP

  • The Trainees/ New teacher will get to know the Elements of IB-PYP (Transdisciplinary Learning), Developing Central Ideas, Lines of Inquiries, and Conceptual Understanding

  • Inquiry. Also, they will understand POI and Planners

  • Next, we didPre-Assessment for15 minsusing the Blob Tree Chart to reflect what they on what they know about our school’s curriculum, Teaching and Learning Practices.

Understanding the PYP 

Tuning In:

  • Teachers explore the elements of PYP like  learner profile attribute, action cycle…    

Finding Out:

  • The teachers will regroup with the leads for group work to read and understand about Active Learning Strategy from MTPYPH then will share their reflection on a form.
  • Then each group will use the key concepts to explain/reflect the elements that they have read about Transdisplinary Themes, Key Concepts, ATLs, Learner Profile Attributes

Sorting Out:Elements of Transdisciplinary Learning.  

  • Classroom Environment   
  • IB approaches to teaching and learning
  • Plan of UOI based on 6 themes
  • Subject Knowledge areas in PYP         

Going Further:Inquiry-Based Teaching  

  • Teachers will watch two videos about What does it mean to be an inquiry teacher? And learning through inquiry with Kath Murdough then they will reflect on what is the role of teachers and students in an inquiry Using a Venn Diagram to share their understanding. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZNLOwXVGn2M

  • Understand how to design and develop the central idea according to certain criteria and how the key concept relates to central idear giving an example of the theme “How the World Works”

Making Conclusion:Developing Central Ideas

  • Teachers tried to develop and evaluate the central and the lines of inquiry idea that related to energy focusing on using action words to show the relationship. After that, they evaluated the central idea using the checklist               
  • Observe the POI as Theme, Central Ideas, Lines of Inquiry and Key Concepts
  • Reflect on the workshop process using the inquiry cycle poster.

 

We continue further learning of PTPYPHfor how to observe the planner.
